You will have been fasting as of the evening before, and have followed the directions which have been given to you in your papers before the operation. The plastic surgeon will take photographs of the area of operation; all these pictures are of course confidential. Finally your operation area will be drawn on your body and carefully planned. This will be done while you are standing or sitting. After this, one of our nurses will take you to your room and help you with all other preparations before your operation. Your anaesthetic doctor will inform you about how the anaesthetics will be given and how you will feel after the operation. After the operation Some patients can feel a little uneasy or in pain after an operation, this is however, very individual. Our goal is of course that you will feel as good as possible the day and nights after the operation. For this reason you should use the pain medicine that you have received as prescribed by your doctor. The area of the operation will become swollen, so use cold compresses and try to sleep with the operated area elevated the following nights after your surgery. Some patients feel emotionally down the day after the operation. This is quite normal that the body reacts in this way. Good hygiene is of the outmost importance to decrease the risk of infection. Normally you can shower the day after an operation. Do not remove the surgical tape closest to the wound. Only when the tape falls off by itself should you change it. Carefully follow the directions you have gotten from your doctor. Call us if there is something you are unsure about: We are here for you. The first follow up will be in the clinic one to two weeks after the operation. It is important to remember that it takes six months to one year to see the final result. Contact with you, the patient, is very important to us after the operation. We are very keen to keep in contact until you have healed totally. We are always available if something has to be specifically followed up with extra care. |
