Breast reduction and breast liftThe most common reasons for a breast reduction are back-, shoulder pains, eczema under the breast due to the weight of the breasts and also uneven heaviness of the breasts causing one side to droop more. Fundamentally there are two different methods which are used to reduce the breast: Liposuction. This is a completely new method used for breast augmentation. Here only the fatty tissue is removed. The operation is less complex and one of the main benefits is that the scars are smaller. There are two important criteria’s that have to be fulfilled if a patient is to exclusively undergo liposuction on the breasts. These are firstly that the volume of the breast must depend on the fat quantity and secondly the breast nipple should have a natural aesthetic positioning. Liposuction is mainly suitable when there is asymmetry of the breasts i.e. different sized breasts. This occurs particularly when women have had surgery for cancer tissue removal on one of the breasts. The patients pictured on the right have only had liposuction done. The breasts have become smaller and lighter. An improved form can be seen. Breast sensation is intact and the scars are not visible. Open surgery This is the most commonly used procedure in Sweden. The advantage is that one has a good view of the final result. However disadvantages are that it is a vast operation with considerable scars. In young women the ability to breast feed and the sensation on the breast nipples can be decreased in some cases. With time these methods do develop so that the disadvantages should become as little as possible. The scars here are exclusively positioned around the breast nipple, along with a vertical line down to the fold under the breast. Even older techniques then these give vast scarring on the breast. Most commonly there is a scar around the breast nipple, a vertical line down to the fold under the breast and also a scar under the breast through the whole length of the fold. At last… Which method is best for You? It is important that the doctor masters the different surgical procedures and can therefore advice You to which surgery is most suitable for You. The choice is always based on all details being carefully considered and therefore each surgery is based on the individual possibilities and personal wishes. |
